The Story of the Shot

Every November and January, a peculiar event happens in Marquette, Michigan. The sun rises directly through the opening in the old ore dock building downtown, an event that locals have dubbed “Orehenge.” Naturally, us photographers love to try to capture an orehenge sunrise. Generally, January in the UP has fewer cloudy days than November, so it can be a better time to photograph Orehenge. However, the tradeoff is the bitter cold temperatures commonly encountered on a January morning.

This morning was no exception. But despite the subzero temperatures, a large crowd of hardy Orehenge enthusiasts turned up for the event. I climbed up the huge snowbank at the edge of the parking lot to get a better vantage point. Crouching down low to the snow, I used the snowbank to hide the crowd standing down by the shoreline. I loved the way the light kissed the edges of the snow, drawing the eye into the scene with a very subtle leading line. Print Type

METAL: Metal prints feature dye directly infused onto a thin sheet of aluminum. They are sleek and modern, featuring vibrant colors and an almost magical luminescence. Because they are made from a solid sheet of metal, they are waterproof and scratch resistant. Also, no framing is required for metal prints! Simply mount the print directly to your wall (mounting hardware is included with each print).

PAPER: Paper prints are un-framed and include just the print itself. The buyer is responsible for matting and framing the print once it has been delivered. That way, you can use a frame that you already have, or choose your own custom frame to better match your existing décor.

PLEASE NOTE: All prints ship directly from my print lab partner and are therefore not able to be signed. If you are interested in a signed print, please contact me to place a custom order. Signed prints usually cost slightly more since I need to have the print shipped twice (once from the print lab to me, and again from me to you).

Shipping

All orders ship for free. Please allow 2-4 weeks total for production and shipping/delivery. At this time, I am only able to ship to the contiguous 48 US states. Any orders with a shipping address outside of this area will be canceled and refunded.
