The Story of the Shot

Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is known for some spectacular winter scenery, including ice caves! Perhaps the most popular is Eben Ice Caves, but there are amazing ice formations all over the shores of Lake Superior. However, the “cathedral” in this shot is actually pretty tiny! I was exploring the lakeshore near Marquette on a frigid morning when I happened upon this “ice cave” of sorts. Even though it looks huge, it’s actually just a small sheet of icicles hanging off of a downed tree branch. The entire thing is maybe a couple feet by a couple feet. But with an ultra wide 14mm lens, I was able to get right in there and fill the entire frame with it. Add in some backlight from the rising sun, and it really came alive!

Print Type

METAL: Metal prints feature dye directly infused onto a thin sheet of aluminum. They are sleek and modern, featuring vibrant colors and an almost magical luminescence. Because they are made from a solid sheet of metal, they are waterproof and scratch resistant. Also, no framing is required for metal prints! Simply mount the print directly to your wall (mounting hardware is included with each print).

PAPER: Paper prints are un-framed and include just the print itself. The buyer is responsible for matting and framing the print once it has been delivered. That way, you can use a frame that you already have, or choose your own custom frame to better match your existing décor.

PLEASE NOTE: All prints ship directly from my print lab partner and are therefore not able to be signed. If you are interested in a signed print, please contact me to place a custom order. Signed prints usually cost slightly more since I need to have the print shipped twice (once from the print lab to me, and again from me to you).

Shipping

All orders ship for free. Please allow 2-4 weeks total for production and shipping/delivery. At this time, I am only able to ship to the contiguous 48 US states. Any orders with a shipping address outside of this area will be canceled and refunded.
