The Story of the Shot

‘Diamond Dust’ is an incredible phenomenon where ice crystals materialize out of thin air. This makes it look like a gentle snowfall is magically appearing on a crystal clear day. But in order for diamond dust to form, the perfect mix of cold temperatures and relative humidity need to happen. Fortunately, Yellowstone meets those conditions fairly frequently in the cold winter months. Diamond dust is beautiful to see in any situation, but it’s especially striking at sunrise when the sun illuminates it from behind. The only issue is that normally, the ice particles would be viewed against the backdrop of the bright sky, making them harder to make out. But in a huge chasm such as the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, you can see the backlit ice particles against the dark backdrop of the shadowy canyon walls. This makes them glow like huge energy beam!

Print Type

METAL: Metal prints feature dye directly infused onto a thin sheet of aluminum. They are sleek and modern, featuring vibrant colors and an almost magical luminescence. Because they are made from a solid sheet of metal, they are waterproof and scratch resistant. Also, no framing is required for metal prints! Simply mount the print directly to your wall (mounting hardware is included with each print).

PAPER: Paper prints are un-framed and include just the print itself. The buyer is responsible for matting and framing the print once it has been delivered. That way, you can use a frame that you already have, or choose your own custom frame to better match your existing décor.

PLEASE NOTE: All prints ship directly from my print lab partner and are therefore not able to be signed. If you are interested in a signed print, please contact me to place a custom order. Signed prints usually cost slightly more since I need to have the print shipped twice (once from the print lab to me, and again from me to you).

Shipping

All orders ship for free. Please allow 2-4 weeks total for production and shipping/delivery. At this time, I am only able to ship to the contiguous 48 US states. Any orders with a shipping address outside of this area will be canceled and refunded.
